4 Day Gorilla Tracking in Rwanda

Parc National des Volcans (PNV) in northern Rwanda is home to approximately 300 mountain gorillas. The park boasts five habituated gorilla families: Amahoro A, Amahoro B, “Group 13,” Sabinyo, Umubano, and Susa, with each group accommodating up to 8 participants daily. Activities include gorilla tracking, scaling the Visoke volcano, golden monkey tracking, visits to the Karisoke Research Centre established by renowned primatologist Dian Fossey, and interactions with local villages. Spanning more than 125 kmĀ², PNV is an integral part of the Virunga Conservation Area and is graced by five Virunga volcanoes: Sabyinyo (3,674 m), Gahinga (3,474 m), Bisoke (3,711 m), Muhabura (4,127 m), and Karisimbi, the tallest volcano standing at an impressive 4,507 m. Notably, all five volcanoes in PNV are dormant, while the active ones are situated in Congo, with Nyiragongo erupting in January 2002 and Nyamulangira in July 2002.
