The haven maintains a strict focus on population management through using contraceptives for females and not allowing breeding, thus preventing overcrowding guaranteeing that resources are available for every rescue animal.
Daily Life and Healing in the Haven
Life here for chimpanzees is centred on extensive care and rehabilitation. Upon arrival, many chimpanzees have terrible injuries and have gone through traumatic experiences from past abuse. They receive 24 hour medical attention by veterinarians and caregivers. The aim of this is to restore these chimpanzees to their original behaviours where they can be themselves.
The haven, which is approximately 250 acres , enables these animals to roam freely and even climb trees without any restrictions and disturbances from the travellers.
